The Pub

A proper village local, a stone’s throw from the water’s edge

The Shore Inn sits on Shore Road in the coastal village of East Wittering, where the street runs down to the sea. It is a spacious one bar pub with an adjoining restaurant, popular with locals all year round and with the many visitors who find their way here each summer.

We are family run, and it shows. Dogs fresh off the beach are greeted with water and treats, sandy feet are no trouble at all, and there is a garden with a partly covered patio for the long, bright afternoons this coast does so well.

Daily changing dishes, local and seasonal

The kitchen is open 12 to 3 every day. Everything is prepared and cooked fresh, in small batches, so the boards change with the season and the catch. Allergies are happily catered for, just ask what is available.

Sourced on our doorstep

Chantry Farm, Billingshurst supplies our pork: rare breed Berkshire and Mangalitza pigs living happy, outdoor lives.

Three Harbours beef, from local salt marsh grazed animals, goes into our steaks, mince and roasting joints.

Fresh fish from the Solent, landed barely 50 metres away, alongside Selsey crab when the boats oblige.

Breads come from The Hungry Guest in Chichester and The Home Bakery here in East Wittering.

Favourites from the boards

  • Beer battered fish and chips with peas and tartare sauce
  • Selsey crab on toasted sourdough
  • The Shore Board smoked salmon, prawn cocktail, mackerel pate and whitebait to share
  • Three Harbours beef burger on a locally baked bun with skinny fries
  • Smoked haddock and spring onion fishcakes
  • Homemade fishfinger sandwich with tartare

Cooked fresh, served honest

We take pride in preparing every dish from fresh. Because we cook in small batches, popular dishes can run out, so if you are in for a drink and spot something you fancy for later, tell us and we will happily set it aside for you.

The menu changes daily, so the dishes above are a flavour of the boards rather than a fixed list. For today’s dishes, give us a ring.

Kitchen open 12 to 3, seven days a week. For today’s menu or to book lunch, call 01243 674454.
